The Conservatory Concept
Too often music education begins and ends with private instruction. To develop the complete musician, education in all aspects of music is needed. This is the pedagogical approach of The Conservatory at Piper Music.
Enrollment in the Conservatory includes each of the following:
Private Instruction
At the core of the conservatory concept is quality one-on-one instruction with an educated and experienced teacher. Our teachers are selected based upon formal music education, teaching experience and active performing schedules.
At the Conservatory, our teachers must understand not only their own instrument, but how to convey the technical and musical subtleties of their instrument to their students.
The result is a professional educational experience for the student yielding greater results in a shorter time.
Masterclasses
Augmenting private instruction are monthly masterclasses in which each student will have the opportunity to participate.
These masterclasses unite all of the teacher's students for an opportunity to perform and receive constructive feedback.
Masterclasses provide frequent performance opportunities which motivate practicing and preparation. This combination strengthens and augments the learning process for each student.
Classroom Education
Music education for the serious and aspiring musician must incorporate classroom training in musical foundations and principles.
The Conservatory at Piper Music offers tailored group instruction in the areas of:
-
Theory
-
History
-
Pedagogy

Meet Dr. Brooke
An accomplished performer, lyric tenor William Brooke has enjoyed performance opportunities both locally and around the world. Performing with the Utah Festival Opera Company, he appeared in performances of Susannah, South Pacific and Naughty Marietta. He has also enjoyed solo appearances in England, Austria and St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, Italy. One of his fondest memories is performing O Holy Night in a grand European cathedral accompanied by its magnificent organ for a midnight Christmas Eve mass in London, England.
However, rather singing for 5,000 people or for a friend’s mother suffering from cancer in a Nashville hospital, Dr. Brooke appreciates the influence music has upon each individual and seeks with every performance the opportunity to inspire, encourage and uplift.
Dr. Brooke received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University, a Master of Music degree in vocal pedagogy from Belmont University and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in vocal performance from the University of Washington. He has also studied in Graz, Austria with the American Institute of Musical Studies as well as the Goethe-Institut in Dresden, Germany.
Dr. Brooke has a great passion for music. However, he has also found success in the business world. He has worked as a financial analyst for an Investment Bank on the East coast as part of a 4-member team managing more than $5 billion in assets. He was also employed as an Independent Consultant designing financial models and providing legal analysis. In 2006, he established Derrick Horne Company, a private real estate development group focused upon land development in the Park City, Utah resort area. A great accomplishment for Mr. Brooke was acceptance to Tulane Law School to study International Humanitarian law.
Making his home in Bellingham, Dr. Brooke is excited to actively support the local musical arts through Piper Music and as a performer and educator. In addition to musical activities, he has a great love for sailing and looks forward to spending time on the water and exploring the San Juan islands.
